Aurora Inn

Its location on the Erie Canal favored continued, steady business. It was deeded to Wells College, then to the Aurora Foundation. It has closed its doors recently for renovations. Staff and guests alike have witnessed a lady in white, as well as, numerous mysterious noises.

Belhurst Castle

It then changed hands several times before it was torn down in 1888 and a new four-story mansion was built. The ghost of an Italian opera singer, who fled from Spain with her lover, tragically died in a secret tunnel underneath the mansion. Her apparition is supposedly seen on premises.

Boldt Castle

He left, never to return but visitors and staff experience the apparition of what some believe to be the builder's wife roaming the uppermost floors of the castle, sometimes seen peaking out a window.

Eastman Dental Dispensary

Scott Donaldson, a local businessman, purchased the building in 2007 and turned it into a haunted house. Since then, every entrance has been boarded or locked shut. There are no trespassing signs. Those that do enter experience disembodied noises and voices.

Hunter's Woods

Jacksonville Cemetery

Those that visit feel an eerie sense of presence. There are reports of young people wandering aimlessly, chasing then disappearing into thin air. Screams and gunshots are also heard in the backwoods.

McClurg Mansion

It houses early artifacts and materials relating to the local, early settlements here. There is a vast collection of fine art, furnishings, textiles and dolls. The Chautauqua County Historical Society now owns this building and conducts tours for the general public. Visitors witness floating white apparitions, believed as the maids of the manor. There is also faint sobbing heard.

Old Seaview Hospital

Those who explore these grounds have witnessed numerous apparitions, shadows, disembodied voices and noises. Many believe these entities as the spirits of long-dead patients who walk the hallways and passages, racked with pain from disease.

Sage College of Albany

The fine arts building on campus supposedly hosts paranormal activity. These buildings were at one time part of the Parson's Home for Children, a children's sanitarium. Apparently, a fire racked this orphanage and many died in the fire. The caretaker and numerous small forms are witnessed in the basement of this building, along with disembodied noises and voices.

Sanger Mansion

It since changed hands many times through the Sanger family before William Cary Sanger Jr., the last Sanger to reside in the mansion, sold the property outside the family. It now is for sale. Visitors witness monk-like shadowy figures, balls of light and the sounds of footsteps following them.

Shanley Hotel

Local workers frequented the Shanley as a favoriate watering hole and temporary home for some. The wealthy also visited this establishment and had private quarters. It continued to function as a hotel, changed its name several times and supposedly housed the mafia at one time. Staff, visitors and paranormal investigators have experienced disembodied voices, an antique lamp turning on by itself and a full body apparition.

Skene Manor

It is said that the Colonel buried his wife underneath the grand staircase but because of state laws, he had to move her to a plot at the bottom of the hill, on the outskirts of the property. Visitors witness a lady in Victorian garb wandering around the castle. She is also seen materialize in a fountain on the outer grounds.

Valentown Museum

Levi Valentine originally built this structure in 1879 as a community center. Staff, visitors and paranormal investigators have experienced disembodied noises: footsteps, knocking, small stones being tossed and EVP. There are also instances where unseen forces touch or grab those that enter this old building.

Wells College - Main Building

It was originally established as a woman's college in 1868, burned down in 1888 and finally rebuilt in 1890. During the brutal influenza epidemic, many students fell ill. The fourth-floor of the main building was transformed into an infirmary. Students claim to witness the ghostly apparitions of nurses standing over their beds or feel cold hands placed on their forehead.
